Private companies, grower organisations and state government agencies make large investments in research and development to support the success of Australian horticulture businesses.
Investment of grower levies in research and development is managed by Horticulture Innovation Australia Limited (HIA).
Western Australian growers also contribute fee for service funds to research and development through the Agricultural Produce Commission.
Key research organisations co-ordinate research and development through a National Horticulture Research Network (NHRN) that fosters collaboration and reduces duplication of effort. NHRN identifies Lead and Support agencies who co-ordinate R&D across government agencies for each major horticulture crop.
The best available information for a particular crop will often be available from the website of the Lead Agency. A list can be found in the tables below. Relevant industry bodies are listed for fruit crops. For vegetable crops the State industry body is vegetablesWA and the national industry body is AUSVEG.
