The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) through Quarantine WA has the power to detain any goods that are deemed risk items or goods which are not accompanied by the correct documentation.

All imported organisms and potential carriers must be declared to Quarantine WA. Private travellers should declare to an inspector immediately upon arrival at a checkpoint. Commercial transporters and importers should declare 24 hours prior to arrival at a checkpoint by using the approved Notice of Intent to import, which can be downloaded from this page.

In order for organisms and potential carriers to be allowed entry into WA there are certain requirements that must be met.

Firstly, you must determine that the organism is listed as permitted on the WA organism list (WAOL).

Once you have determined that the organism is listed as permitted you will need to check the Quarantine WA Import Requirements Search for any conditions of entry relating to that product.

For information on importing organisms and potential carriers into Western Australia for other Australian States or Territories please can contact our Quarantine WA team on 08 9334 1800 or qwa.import@dpird.wa.gov.au.

For information on importing specific goods, see the links on this page.
