Chemical products available for use

Products likely to achieve eradication - off shears treatment only

Backliners

  • neonicotinids: imidocloprid (for example, Avenge)
  • organo-phosphates: diazinon (for example, Eureka Gold)
  • spinosyns (for example, Extinosad PO)
  • macrocyclic lactone (for example, Maverick).

Dips (shower or plunge) provided that sheep are thoroughly wetted

  • organo-phosphates: temephos (for example, Assassin or Wham)
  • spinosyns (for example, Extinosad)
  • magnesium flurosilicate (for example, Flockmaster II).

Dips (cage) provided that sheep are thoroughly wetted

  • diazinon by cage immersion dipping (permit number - Per 12555).

Products not likely to achieve eradication

Long wool treatments (backliners and hand jet options)

  • spinosyns (for example, Extinosad)
  • ivermectin (for example, Paramax, Coopers blowfly and lice jetting fluid, Zinjet).

Chemical groups where resistance by lice is common

  • synthetic pyrethroids (SPs)
  • insect growth regulators (IGRs).
