With marking finished for the 2013 lambing season, nominations for the 100%+ Club are now open for producers who achieved a whole-farm average marking percentage of 100 per cent or more during the season.

In addition to events and ongoing support, all eligible nominees in 2013 go into a draw to win an iPad.

Department of Agriculture and Food development officer and 100%+ Club coordinator Katherine Ayres said the average marking rate in WA in 2011-12 was 85 per cent (across all breeds) and 84 per cent for merino lambs.

“This means that there are many producers reaching much higher than 84 per cent marking rate,” Ms Ayres said.

“We have already received a number of nominations well in excess of 110 per cent and we know that many producers are marking in excess of 100 per cent.

“There are many benefits to joining the 100%+ Club and we encourage all eligible producers to nominate.

“Last year we held some great events exclusively for club members including a tour of a live export feedlot and live export vessel in Fremantle port.”

The 100%+ Club is open to all sheep producers, irrespective of breed.

Eligible producers must have a minimum flock of 500 ewes and have reached 100 per cent lamb marking across the entire breeding ewe flock for the 2013 season.

The 100%+ Club is part of the More Sheep initiative, an industry-wide collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Food and the Sheep Industry Leadership Council (SILC) to help secure the future of WA’s sheep industry.

Nomination forms are available at moresheep.agric.wa.gov.au or by contacting Katherine Ayres on +61 (0)8 9690 2169 or email katherine.ayres@agric.wa.gov.au
