The Department of Agriculture and Food will promote the diverse range of career opportunities in the agriculture and food sector at the South West Careers Expo to be held in Busselton on 29 May.

Department South West regional director Neil Guise said agriculture and food industries offered an array of interesting career options for students to consider.

“The Careers Expo is an excellent opportunity for students and their parents to hear about career opportunities in the agrifood sector and talk with people working in different roles,” Mr Guise said.

“I think a lot of people will be surprised at how varied and exciting an agricultural career can be.

“With food security growing in importance globally, careers in agriculture will become more important to communities in the future.”

The department’s dairy team leader John Lucey will share his experiences and highlight that students don’t need a farming background to work effectively in the industry.

At the Department of Agriculture and Food display, there will be a careers quiz and an opportunity to win a prize. Irrigated agriculture development officer Rachelle Johnstone will be available to answer any questions.

“We look forward to meeting local students and parents at the Expo,” Mr Guise said.

The South West Careers Expo will be held on Wednesday, 29 May from 5 pm to 7.30 pm at MacKillop Catholic College, off College Avenue, in Busselton.
