Nearly 200 children of all ages had fun discovering the agricultural trail at the Warren District Show recently.

The Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA) worked in conjunction with the show committee to implement and promote the trail for children and their parents to learn more about local produce, cattle and machinery.

Manjimup Horticultural Research Institute officer Debra Sanders said the department was very pleased with the participation rate of children from seven schools.

“We received positive feedback from many parents and children regarding the trail,” she said.

“Children seemed to enjoy going around to the different sites. Parents remarked that it was great to give children something else to do at the show and to see what the show was really all about.”

Two prizes for the first correct entries drawn were awarded to Brodie O’Breza from East Manjimup Primary School and Rueben Hill from Manjimup Primary School. Each child’s school received a $20 gift voucher on behalf of the Warren Agricultural Society.

The DAFWA display, which featured aspects of the work undertaken at the Manjimup Horticulture Research Institute, was also awarded best trade display at the show.

Mrs Sanders said following the success of the trail, there had been requests from parents, children and the show society to conduct a discovery trail next year.
