New commercial supplies of 1080 oat baits and strychnine for the control of wild dogs, foxes and rabbits are scheduled to reach the market in April this year.

Western Australian-based agricultural distributor 4Farmers was last year awarded the tender to manufacture and distribute a range of 1080 and strychnine products.

These products were previously produced at the Department of Agriculture and Food’s facility in Forrestfield.

Department Agricultural Resource Risk Management Executive Director John Ruprecht said the commercialised manufacture of a range of bait products resulted from a public tender process conducted during 2012.

“It was hoped that these commercially-produced baits were to be available by the end of 2013,” Mr Ruprecht said.

“However, a number of factors have delayed this. To ensure availability, interim bait supplies from the department’s bait production facility were produced and remained on the market but two of these products ‘One Shot’ and ‘Ready-to-lay’ rabbit oat baits are now exhausted.”

4Farmers Director Phil Patterson said their production was projected to come online by early April.

The department’s bait production facility ceased general production of baits in 2010.

More information about available bait supplies can be provided by retailers of S7 agricultural products.
