The Department of Agriculture and Food (DAFWA) is busy preparing for this year’s Warren District Agricultural Show on 8 March.

Manjimup Horticultural Research Institute officer Debra Sanders said she was excited to be assisting in developing an agricultural discovery trail for children at this year’s show.

“We want children to realise there is so much more to the show than just sideshow alley,” she said.

“By embarking on the trail, primary school aged children and their parents will discover interesting facts and information on local produce, cattle, farm animals and machinery.

“An integral stop is the DAFWA tent where children and their parents can experience some aspects of the work undertaken at the Manjimup Horticulture Research Institute including an entomology display, where children can examine close up a range of bugs.”

Mrs Sanders has been liaising with local schools to promote the trail and has assisted in putting together a bumper prize pack for the lucky winner.

“Every child that completes the trail will receive a prize and also go in the draw to win one of two major prizes for themselves and their school,” she said.

“We look forward to as many children participating as possible as this is part of our work to enhance the profile of the WA agriculture and food sector.

“The trail is free, so make sure you pick up your entry form at the main gate on Saturday, 8 March and join in the fun.”

Thanks to the State Government all children aged 16 and younger will enjoy free entry to the 2014 Warren District Agricultural Show when accompanied by an adult.
