The 2013 AgLinkEd Scholarship winner, Stephanie Boyce, has taken the next step in pursuing her career in agriculture, after being appointed to the Department of Agriculture and Food’s Geraldton office.

Stephanie, who lives in Northampton, has started as a technical officer in grain crop agronomy, after completing Year 12 at the WA College of Agriculture in Morawa (WACOA) last year.

Stephanie said she intended to take this year off and then study at university, however, the job opportunity with the department came up so she applied.

“I am passionate about working in the agriculture sector, particularly in a role such as this where I am out in the field engaging with my local community,” she said.

“I still plan to further my studies and complete a Diploma of Agriculture. The practical experience I will gain while working with the department will be invaluable and able to be applied to my future studies.”

Stephanie not only won the Department’s 2013 AgLinkEd scholarship but was awarded the WACOA dux, equal highest achiever in Agriculture, the Morawa Farm Improvement Group Farm Innovation Award and the Edith Cowan University Personal Excellence Award.

Department Education Initiative officer Nikki Poulish said the AgLinkEd initiative was a collaborative effort between the Departments of Agriculture and Food and Education to link agriculture and education by providing classroom resources and support for agricultural schools and colleges.

“It is pleasing to see a scholarship winner be given the opportunity to work in agriculture sector so soon after graduating from college,” Ms Poulish said.

“The scholarship aims to encourage secondary students to consider a career in agriculture, which is exactly what Stephanie has done.”

The 2015 recipients of the AgLinkEd Scholarship will be announced in October.
