Giao has been working as a research scientist with the Department since 2020. He has been conducting vegetable research in protected cropping facilities and open field for higher yield, better quality, and improved nutrient use efficiency and resistance to diseases. Giao has also been conducting vegetable trials at growers’ farms for demonstration and addressing soil borne issues using genetic and agronomic approaches. All the research work can be directly applied to the local vegetable industry.
Giao has over 20 years' experience working as a scientist on crop science research. Before joining the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, he worked as a grains research scientist for Agriculture Victoria. He gained solid experience in digital plant phenotyping technology and grains gene bank operation during this time.
