The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's Agribusiness, Food, Trade and Investment team offers a number of funding initiatives to support Western Australian agribusinesses.

Funds enable opportunities for upskilling, capacity building, supporting business growth and developing strategies to attract investment, capture export market opportunities, create more jobs and increase capital in Western Australia.

Value Add Investment Grants

The VAIG is a major competitive grant program of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), which is designed to build capability and innovation within the agribusiness, food and beverage value adding industries.

The incentive scheme is targeted at value-adding businesses with high growth potential from across regional and metropolitan Western Australia. It supports businesses looking to invest in new projects or expansion opportunities to build competitiveness and grow their operations.

Round Three has up to $6 million in funding available. Businesses can access support through two different funding streams:

  • Capital Investment Stream
    Grants available of between $500,000 and $1,000,000 to support capital expenditure for expanding or relocating value-adding in Western Australia.
  • Feasibility Stream
    Grants available of between $15,000 and $100,000 to provide funds for the planning, feasibility and other de-risking activities to support future capital investment decisions.

Agrifood and Beverage Voucher Program (Round 5 - $800K)

$800,000 worth of vouchers are available for Western Australian agrifood and beverage manufacturers to engage business consultants or technical experts.

The Agrifood and Beverage Voucher Program supports small businesses across regional and metropolitan WA to access expert advice to build resilience and sustainability, competitiveness, scale and export preparedness into their operations.

Vouchers with a combined value of up to $20,000 will be provided to competitive Western Australian businesses that meet the eligibility criteria and whose business development objectives are most closely aligned with the State Government’s objectives including:

  • Growing and diversifying the State’s economy - Future jobs and skills;
  • Stronger, safer communities;
  • Investing in climate action;
  • Investing in the regions.

Vouchers will be offered on a competitive application basis to support contracting professional consultancy services in one or more of the following five categories:

  • Business planning;
  • Manufacturing for business growth;
  • Sales and marketing;
  • Financial health;
  • Environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

International Competitiveness Co-Investment Fund

The International Competitiveness Co-investment Fund is a major grant program of $3.85 million committed across four grant funding rounds (2020-2023) through what was formerly known as the Grants for Asian Market Exports (GAME).

Funding for ICCF Round Two is available for projects to be run over two years from 2021-22 to 2022-23.  The total amount of funds available for ICCF Round Two during this period is $2.7 million.   

The Program aims to: 

  • Provide WA agrifood businesses with the capability to access and develop international export markets;  
  • Support WA agrifood businesses to achieve consistent business growth through enhanced international competitiveness and strategic customer relationships in high value, premium international export markets; and 
  • Support WA exporters in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain and further develop their relationships with existing and new international customers. 

ICCF Round Two also seeks to support WA agrifood businesses to develop and implement strategies to capture export market opportunities including those with discerning consumers looking for agrifood products with sustainability-related attributes that will lead to direct benefits for regional Western Australia.   

Grants of between $20,000 and $100,000 are available to aspiring, emerging and established exporters with a cash co-contribution requirement of $1 for every $1 of grant funding received.

Curtin Ignition Scholarships (Total $9,750)

We’re supporting innovation and technology in our primary industries by funding 3 scholarships to attend the Curtin Ignition Program Perth 5 to 10 September 2021.

It’s an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators to develop and trial their business ideas during an intensive week of workshops, mentoring sessions and clinics involving leading experts.

Our scholarships are open to WA students, individuals or businesses that could become high-growth business contributing to the prosperity of our state and seeking ideas to solve an issue for our agrifood, fibre, fisheries or forestry industries.

Applications from Indigenous, new and aspiring entrepreneurs with limited experience of starting a business are strongly encouraged to apply.

Value Add Agribusiness Investment Attraction Fund (Round 2 - $4.55M)

Closed - Applications closed 5.00pm (AWST) Friday 13 March  2020

Value adding agrifood businesses and processors with interests in the regions could apply for round 2 of the state government grant to grow and scale up capacity to capture new opportunities that take their enterprise to the next level.

  • Capital Expenditure: Up to $3 million available. Up to $300 000 per business towards capital expenditure related to investment in expansion or relocation of value add production and processing businesses in regional WA.
     
  • De-risking Investment: Up to $550 000 available. Up to $100 000 per business towards de-risking investment in value adding enterprises.
     
  • Agrifood Technology Investment Fund: Up to $1 million available. Up to $100 000 per business to support value adding businesses to invest in globally competitive ag-tech and food-tech.

Investor Readiness Grant Program ($320 000)

Closed - Applications closed 5.00pm (AWST) Monday 13 January 2020

The Investor Readiness Program offered a competitive grant program that supported Western Australian agrifood businesses to become ‘investor ready’ by providing access to relevant professional services. Eligible businesses could receive a grant of up to $20 000 (ex GST) and were required to match the grant funding dollar-for-dollar.
