Declan McCauley

My role in the department

Declan is a research scientist based in Manjimup and is responsible for all tree physiology avocado related matters in Western Australia.

Declan had researched various factors around avocados including fungicide dipping, wet fruit harvesting and sustainable fruit load management. He has been involved in the avocado supply chain benchmarking project where he was responsible for data loggers in consignments of fruit from Western Australia to the eastern states.

Currently Declan is working with the Australian Produce Commission to assess the flower behaviour of avocado trees, using time lapse cameras and temperature loggers.

My background

Declan won numerous awards during his degree, where he majored in botany and agricultural science, including the Henry Seeligson prize, the Walter Harper prize, the Mary Simpson prize and the JW Paterson prize. In 2017 he completed an Honours degree in agricultural science achieving a First-Class grade and was awarded the Eva Sobotka prize in agriculture.
