Plant available water capacity measuring equipment in the field.jpg

Photograph of field site used to measure plant available water capacity of a soil
The drained upper water limit of the soil is measured after irrigating a plot using irrigation dripper pipe under black plastic until it is saturated (towards the rear of the photo), and leaving it to drain. An adjacent plot (in the foreground) has a clear plastic tent over it to shed any rain as the crop matures, to calculate the water left. Both of these sites are sampled and compared to generate plant available water capacity measurements.
