My role in the department
Kelly works in the Farming Systems Innovation (FSI) Directorate, within the Primary Industries Development pillar. Part of a regionally based team, her focus is to enable innovative farming systems that create wealth and enhance the regional landscape, including the resource base. This includes:
- Frontline situational awareness and analysis of seasonal issues, community information, emergency management, and regional farming systems
- Contributing to strategic partnerships, including between DPIRD and the GGA
- Enabling industry innovation through targeted analysis
- Regional office management.
My background
With more than 20 years’ experience, Kelly’s career has focused on collaboration with growers and industry to improve the sustainability and profitability of farming systems at the local, regional and State level. A proficient extension officer, she has knowledge and experience across many aspects including farm and catchment management, pasture systems, livestock, salinity, natural resource management, viticulture, and emergency management. Kelly is adept at managing stakeholder relationships, working together to capture regionally specific aspects, identify barriers, minimise risks, and prioritise opportunities for farming systems in the Great Southern.
Projects
- Farming Systems Innovation – Regional Intelligence process. Collecting regional and seasonal information, translating this information into intelligence to inform industry, government and operational teams of current and emerging risks and opportunities.
- Farming Systems Innovation – Well-defined farming systems in WA. Shaping an integrated approach to the work of DPIRD in Farming Systems that will assist DPIRD and industry to capitalise on growth opportunities beyond the next five years.
- Farming Systems Innovation – Extension & Adoption Pathways. Understanding the extension and adoption landscape, including the role for DPIRD.
