My role in the department

Kevin commenced as a field assistant with the then Department of Agriculture’s Stoneville Research Station in 1979. He has gained over 40 years' experience working with pome, stone, and citrus crops in the main horticultural regions of Western Australia’s Southwest.

Kevin has been extensively involved in the Australian National Apple Breeding program and the development of several commercial varieties released from that program. He has “Qualified Person” status with IP Australia and has compiled several variety descriptions including the recently released ANABP 01 apple variety sold under the brand name Bravo®.

During his time atthe department, Kevin has also been involved with several pest and disease incursion responses including apple scab, coddling moth, brown rot, and Queensland Fruit Fly.

My background

Born in Western Australia, Kevin grew up on a small orchard in Kelmscott. He gained his Diploma in Agriculture through TAFE while working as a technical officer at the Manjimup Horticultural Research Institute where he worked from 1985 to 1994.

Kevin has also been involved with citrus variety and rootstock evaluation as part of the national Horticulture Innovation Australia’s funded trials managed by the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
