Organisation: Grower group: Mingenew Irwin Group
Grower Group R&D Grant amount: $475,700

The North South Beef Alliance aims to build a consistent and collaborative beef production supply chain by promoting the backgrounding system where pastoral cattle are finished on agricultural land. This could deliver a $30 million per annum boost to Western Australia’s beef-cattle industry.

Beef cattle bred in the pastoral region in northern WA will be transported to the agricultural area in the south for grass-fed finishing, ensuring continuity of supply to domestic and export processors, and reinvigorating the production supply chain.

The Alliance includes the Department of Agriculture and Food, WA Northern Beef Futures project, Kimberley and Gascoyne pastoralists, farmers from throughout the agricultural region, domestic processors, WA livestock exporters, indigenous pastoral and farming businesses, Geraldton and Fremantle ports.

The $17.4 million Grower Group R&D Grants Program is a major component of the Agricultural Sciences R&D Fund managed by DAFWA.
