Western Australian sheep producers who have achieved a lamb marking percentage of more than 100 per cent on their farm are invited to nominate for the 100%+ Club and the chance to win two tonnes of feed for their flock.

Department of Agriculture and Food senior development officer Mandy Curnow said a total of six tonnes of feed would be awarded to members of the department’s More Sheep 100%+ Club, made possible through partnership with Milne Feeds.

“This is an excellent opportunity to celebrate the hard work of sheep producers who have achieved marking percentages of more than 100 per cent over the past season,” Ms Curnow said.

“Raising lamb turn off increases farm profits and has flow-on benefits in building the size of the State’s sheep flock.

“The More Sheep Initiative’s 100%+ Club recognises producers who achieve top lambing rates and can demonstrate a whole-farm average marking percentage of 100 per cent or more over the past season.”

Department Executive Director for Livestock Industries, Peter Metcalfe, who took up the role in February, will be at Wagin Woolorama.

Mr Metcalfe said he was pleased to have Milne Feeds supporting the success of sheep producers of Western Australia.

“The 100%+ Club is one of several department initiatives aimed at growing the productivity and profitability of the sheep industry and helps lay the foundation to double industry’s value by 2025,” he said.

Milne Feeds sales manager Reg Crabb said nutrition was a key factor for WA sheep enterprises to continue to improve their lambing percentage rates and enjoy a successful 2015 season.

“Milne Feeds are proud to be able to sponsor the department’s support of the sheep industry,” Mr Crabb said.

One prize of two tonnes of feed will be drawn from producers who successfully nominate for the 100%+ Club at the department’s display at Wagin Woolorama on 6 and 7 March. Producers are also able to nominate at the Milne Feeds display.

A further prize of two tonnes of feed will be awarded to a producer who has already nominated for the 100%+ Club, and the final two tonne prize will be awarded at the 100%+ Club awards dinner on 1 April.

More information about the 100%+ Club is available on the department website.

The Department of Agriculture and Food’s shed at Wagin Woolorama will be located at Site 626, Kitchener Street, Wagin.
