The choice of pasture species is important in order to provide high quality feed for grazing livestock, to be adapted to the growing environment and to provide sufficient groundcover to help protect the soil from erosion.

Once you have considered how you will use the pasture, you can plan the steps needed to optimise pasture growth (e.g. weed control, appropriate variety mixtures and fertiliser program).

There are also different grazing methods that can be used to improve productivity, maintain desirable pasture species and reduce land degradation.
