Meet Crop Protection team member- Dr Ahmed Saad

Dr Ahmed Saad

Dr Ahmed Saad is a plant pathologist who has recently joined the Crop Protection team at the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) in Perth. Ahmed is working with Dr Daniel Huberli to assess the impact of soil amelioration and amendments on the incidence and severity of Rhizoctonia solani G8 on cereals.

Originally from Egypt, Ahmed has a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) from Alexandria University in Egypt. He began his career as an analytical chemist in Egypt before moving to Australia in 2010.

Ahmed worked as a research assistant for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries in Queensland three years before completing a PhD at the University of Southern Queensland (UniSQ) on the impact of soil-borne disease, crown and common root rot, on winter cereals.

After completing his PhD, he joined the summer crop group at Centre for Crop Health, UniSQ, researching the pathogen development and virulence of seed-borne diseases, tan spot and halo blight on mung bean before making the move to DPIRD.

In his free time, Ahmed enjoys playing the guitar, listening to music, taking landscape photos, travelling, hanging out with friends and watching movies.
