Congratulations to the below list of recipients of Round 1, 2 & 3 of the Grants for Asian Market Export, part of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's Asian Market Success project, made possible by State Government investment. 

Round 3 – awarded projects

Grant information:

  • a total investment of $500 000 available
  • individual grants were between $20 000 - $50 000
  • recipients must provide a minimum of 50% of the total grant funding as cash co-contribution.

Asian market brand development and sales expansion

The project aims to expand export sales of WA’s green lip abalone products from the company’s operations in Augusta, and increase awareness of the Two Oceans Abalone brand in Asian markets. It will contribute to the economic development and growth in regional WA by providing further employment opportunities, promoting growth to local businesses and attracting further investment to the region.

Robotic Palletiser

Tosum Pty Ltd intends to install and implement a robotic palletiser in their pack house in order to lower production costs, and improve their international competitiveness. This will enable Tosum to more effectively compete on price with the use of the palletiser and increase productivity whilst decreasing the cost of production.

Northern Valley Packers Pty Ltd

Investigate NIR Technology - target citrus sales to specific export markets

The project will investigate NIR technologies and suppliers, enabling Northern Valley Packers Pty Ltd to deliver specific classes of fruit to targeted markets. Tailored export branding, market research and brand development will support both MOORA and COOEE citrus brands to compete in, as well as target specific international markets.

Naturaliste Vintners Pty Ltd

Building Client Relations to Increase Wine Exports to China

By building relationships with key pre-qualified Chinese distributors and influencers, Domaine Naturaliste plans to grow their distribution footprint in China through hosting visits to the Margaret River region. This will involve direct interaction with the winemaking team and other activities showcasing the provenance of the region and other selected wineries.

West Australian Corn Growers

Flow - pack sweetcorn packing line

West Australian Corn Growers aims to supply a trayless 100% recyclable sweetcorn packaging option to meet overseas specifications. This packaging system will enable West Australian Corn Growers to penetrate the Singaporean and other markets with a price and quality advantage over competitors and provide a greater range of corn products than currently supplied.

Latitude 28 Produce

Expanding the provenance data captured on our Blockchain application to include tracking of livestock from birth.

L28 seeks to demonstrate to producers and industry how blockchain technology can improve premiums and reduce non-Australian beef and lamb being falsely sold as Australian produce in the Chinese market. L28 is building version 2.0 of its blockchain application to expand provenance data by including RFID tagging information to track livestock from birth to consumers’ plates.

Macadamia Nut Coating Facility


In order to meet the growing demand across premium retail markets in Asia, this project will construct a macadamia nut coating facility which will be used to value add to Macadamia nuts produced in Western Australia. The plant will be used as a contract facility as well as to manufacture Macadamia nuts products for the Bahen & Co business.

Dorper Lamb Company – growing export supply chains of WA premium branded lamb to Asian consumers

This project will capitalise on an existing lamb brand and grow exports to existing and prospective high value customers and end consumers in Asia of a premium WA product and brand underpinned by a breed (the Dorper) through multiple market channels in Asia.

Wines Promotion China

Dickinson Estate wines aims to increase acceptance and sales of their wines to Chinese consumers by promoting their wines alongside their established in-market partner. Proudly claiming "Wines of Western Australia" on their labels will bring positive attention to the Blackwood Valley wine region and to Western Australia.

Pemberton Fresh Pty Ltd

Marketing, promotion and introduction of additional WA fresh premium products

The project will complement existing marketing and promotions activities and enable the introduction of additional premium fruit, vegetables and complementary value added products sourced from WA into the Singaporean market place. Pemberton Fresh Pty Ltd will take customers on an education journey about the freshness of WA premium fruit and vegetables.

Odyssey Creek Estate

The development of an innovative promotional package to position the Whicher Ridge Brand in three Asian markets as a high quality, provenance focused, premium wine producer

The project aims at launching the Whicher Ridge wine brand into selected Asian markets with an integrated wine marketing and promotional package tailored specifically to appeal to wine consumers and trade customers in Asian markets. The package will position the brand as a leading regional maker of high quality wines, with a story of its provenance in a region renowned for the production of world-class wines and wine tourism experiences.

Round 1 & 2 - grant information:

  • a total investment of $3 million over two rounds was available
  • individual grants were between $20 000 - $200 000
  • applicants required an in-market partner, and to provide 25% co-contribution (cash and in-kind)
  • only businesses that are exporting goods and services related to food and beverages produced or manufactured in Western Australia were eligible to apply
  • applicants were able to be eligible over both rounds of grants.

Fresh Produce Alliance Pty Ltd (FPA) will develop and commercialise a nutritious, ready to eat (RTE) product range for the aged-care market in Asia. The development of this high-value differentiated product range, will bring innovation, skills and employment into the regions.

Grant for Asian Marketing Plan Development

Pardoo Beef Corporation (PBC) will develop a full marketing plan for exporting quality Pardoo Wagyu beef from the Pilbara to niche Asian markets. This project will significantly progress the goal of developing a high-value, export focused Western Australian Wagyu beef production system.

Quality Guarantee

This project seeks to upgrade facilities that will enable Tosum to guarantee premium quality and sweetness of fruit for year round supply to export customers.  This will enable Tosum to increase its international competitiveness, leading to bigger and better supply contracts and creating more jobs in regional WA.

Asian Export of Case Ready Lamb Products

The project will leverage Harvey Beef's brand created by its retail beef range, to develop a WA branded lamb finished product for high-end Asian markets. Harvey Beef intends to collaborate with WA lamb producers and primary processors in this project, resulting in increased value across the lamb supply chain.

Premium Brolos Lobster for Premium China Markets

Geraldton Fishermen’s Cooperative (GFC) is launching a ‘business to consumer’ live lobster supply chain in China. This project will develop strategic marketing activities to establish Western Rock Lobster as a premium lobster product, which will ultimately unlock increased value of this product for WA rock lobster fisherman.

Avena Mills Export Market Development Plan

This project will be a fundamental step in transforming Avena Mills from a hulled oats and bird seed processor into a rolled-oats processor and exporter into premium Asian markets. This successful transformation will raise the confidence in value-adding opportunities in a traditionally commodity focused industry and increase employment in the regions.

Development of Premium South West Fresh Milk Exports for Asian Markets

This project will see Bannister Downs Dairy (BDD) develop a real-time, web-based quality assurance platform to increase customer confidence and ensure its products meets stringent export standards of premium Asian markets. This will enable BDD to become a leading WA exporter of premium fresh milk product. The creation of sustainable export markets will lead to an expansion in production capacity, and provide new business and job opportunities in the South-West.

Delivering Ocean Ranched Premium Quality Greenlip Abalone to the Chinese Market

This project plans to support Ocean Grown Abalone (OGA) to diversify its product offering by implementing live export and processing technology, and market development activities in premium Asian markets. This will result in an increased demand for, and value in, OGA’s ocean ranched premium Greenlip Abalone products.

The aim of the project is establish a distinctive brand throughout the supply chain in Singapore. The brand will promote LVP’s WA provenance and establish greater end user demand. This will protect and grow market share, with the additional sales resulting in increased demand for more pigs grown and processed in WA.

This project will develop a Harvey Beef branded retail and food service range for export into premium markets within Asia and the Middle East. Ultimately the project will assist in delivering improved and more stable returns for cattle producers by moving more products out of the volatile commodity trade into the more stable value added premium trade.

The project will build a strategy and market development activities focused on rapid penetration into high growth. premium markets in Asia. Through this project, Mareterram expects to achieve successful sales overseas, diversify its product base, and deliver long term sustainability for the company and its regional partners.

This project aims to implement advanced technology into the WA citrus export value chain to deliver premium fruit that meets individual specifications of export markets, faster and more competitively.  The project will result in:

  • reducing costs and increasing efficiency
  • building the confidence of in-market partners that WA citrus fruit exceeds consumer expectations
  • establishing a first class reputation of WA produce
  • demonstrating opportunities to future WA citrus exporters.

Chilled WA meat to China

The objective of the project is to establish a recognisable brand targeting premium Chinese markets. 

Ultimately, this project will see new and additional lamb and beef markets established giving current producers more confidence to increase flock and herd numbers in WA. The anticipated increase in volumes will benefit employment in the WA farming and rural sector while promoting the superior quality of WA meat to consumers.
